Abstract

Kale Ghochi pistachio is a large and very productive variety, but it is very sensitive to stress, and intense sunlight and sunburn reduce its yield to a great extent. Kaolin is a reflective compound that can be used in agriculture as a cover to reduce the heat stress of the sun, especially in areas with hot or sunny weather. It is expected that the phenomenon of global warming in pistachio growing areas will cause more intense heat, more intensity of radiation and continuous sunlight at higher levels. Therefore, with the aim of dealing with these tensions, the effect of kaolin foliar application on sunburn damage and quantitative, qualitative and physiological characteristics of Kale Ghochi variety pistachio was studied. For this study, pistachio trees in Raver region of Kerman were sprinkled with kaolin at three levels of 0, 3, and 5% during two consecutive years in July and August, as well as July, August, and September. The results showed that the mutual effect of the film obtained from foliar spraying of 5% kaolin improved the quantitative, qualitative and physiological characteristics of pistachios of the Kale Ghochi cultivar during the foliar spraying times of July, August and September compared to the control and reduced the sunburn damage of the Kale Ghochi cultivar pistachios. Therefore, considering the importance of the pistachio crop, kaolin foliar spraying is suggested as a cost-effective solution to manage sunburn and improve the quantity and quality of the pistachio crop.
