Abstract
In this study, the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the fruit of 14 pistachio cultivars in Eshtehard County, Alborz Province were examined. The pistachio cultivars included 'Rezaei Zoodras', 'Owhadi', 'Ahmadaghaei', 'Abbasali', 'Shahpasand', 'Chorook', 'Akbari', 'Sefid Pesteh', 'Kallehghouchi', 'Momtaz', 'Khanjari', 'Akbari Poost Ghermez', 'Qazvini', and 'Badami Sefid', which were grafted in June 2020. At the onset of bearing (2024), various traits were recorded. The results of the study showed that the cultivars showed significant differences in the characteristics studied. The highest values of fresh (2733 grams of fresh product) and dry (1100 grams of dry product) yield parameters per tree, kernel percentage (53 percent), split percentage (92.33%), as well as the lowest values for empty nuts (5.5%) and closed-mouth or non-split nuts (7.5%) belonged to the Ahmadaghaei cultivar. The Rezaei Zodars, Khanjari, Chorook, and Abbasali cultivars had the lowest yield per tree. The lowest number of nuts per cluster (10) and dry fruit weight per cluster (9.6 grams) belonged to the Khanjari cultivar. The highest percentage of empty nuts (17%) belonged to the Owhadi cultivar (17 percent), followed by Badami Sefid and Abbasali with 14.3 percent. The Rezaei Zoodras and Chorook cultivars showed the lowest amount of fruit kernels with 48.3 percent. Based on the overall evaluated traits, the Ahmadaghaei cultivar, due to its high yield, greater splitting and kernel percentages, and lower blankness, as well as Shahpasand and Akbari cultivars, can be recommended as suitable options for orchard development in the region. In contrast, Rezaei Zoodras, Khanjari, Chorook, and Abbasali cultivars showed lower adaptability to the regional conditions due to their lower yield and some undesirable quality traits. However, long-term evaluation and assessment of yield stability over different years are necessary for definitive conclusions.
