Abstract

Pistachio is the most important horticultural crop in Iran that it is propagated using different budding methods. Selection of budding method is the most important in the propagation of pistachio trees. In order to study of the effect of height and budding method on bud success and vegetative growth of pistachio cv ‘Owhadi’ an experiment was conducted as factorial in a randomized complete block design during successive years in an orchard that located in Abarkooh, Yazd province. The factors included height in three levels (20, 30 and 40 cm of ground level) and budding method in two levels (shield budding and tube budding) with 12 replications (seedling) and 3 samples (budded shoot) each replication. Bud success was evaluated in the first year and vegetative parameters were evaluated in two years. The results showed that the highest bud success obtained with tube budding. In tube budding, vegetative parameters were not affected by height whereas in shield method the highest bud success and vegetative parameters obtained with 20 cm height.
