OThe top-working of pistachio trees grafted on Badami rootstocks (with unknown initial graft scions) was carried out at the Pistachio Research Station of Ardakan, Yazd Province in 2021 using scions from seven cultivars: Akbari, Fandoghi, native cultivars: Jalil-Aghaei, Parandei, Haj Abdollahi, Sahraei, and Haj Agha Ali . The graft-take percentages were found to be 100% for Akbari and Fandoghi cultivars, 80% for Jalil-Aghaei, Haj Abdollahi, and Haj Agha Ali, and 70% for Parandei and Sahraei. The evaluation of quantitative and qualitative traits among the studied cultivars indicated that the highest number of nuts per cluster was observed in the Haj Agha Ali cultivar (50 nuts per cluster), while the lowest ounce value belonged to Akbari (22). In terms of split nuts, Haj Abdollahi and Parandei cultivars showed the highest percentages, 90% and 87% respectively. Regarding total pistachio yield (mean dry yield per tree), Haj Abdollahi exhibited the highest yield with an average of 6.1 kg per tree. Therefore, based on the findings of this study, and with the aim of increasing productivity and yield per unit area in old and low-yielding pistachio orchards, it is recommended that, in Yazd Province and other pistachio-growing areas with similar climatic conditions, top-working operations and replacement of low-yield cultivars be carried out using high-yielding genotypes such as Haj Abdollahi (with good graft-take rate of 80%, highest yield and nut-splitting percentage, and lowest empty-nut rate) and Akbari (showing the highest graft-take rate of 100% and graft growth of 35.9 cm).
